Upon inspection, the cause was clear: **heavy scale buildup on the humidifier tubes.** The deposits had built up to more than ¼ inch thick, significantly limiting heat transfer and forcing the system to work harder than it should. ## **The Challenge** The level of scale inside the humidifier wasn’t minor, it was severe. At that thickness, the system was no longer operating efficiently, and energy use had climbed accordingly. It’s estimated that this kind of buildup can increase energy demand by as much as 40%. The client needed a way to: - Remove the scale effectively - Restore performance - Avoid a lengthy shutdown or complex teardown ## **The Game Plan** **Step 1: Match the solution to the severity** Given how heavy the deposits were, a light cleaning approach wouldn’t have delivered results. The situation called for a product capable of breaking down thick, stubborn scale without damaging the system. **Step 2: Use a product designed for this exact issue** WMC Water recommended a proprietary scale remover, which is formulated to handle aggressive scale removal while remaining safe for stainless steel components like those in the humidifier. **Step 3: Keep the process straightforward and efficient** Rather than overcomplicating the job, the solution was provided to the contractor with clear instructions on how to apply it: covering circulation, contact time, and best practices.
